Allego announces that as of 1 September 2024, it will remove its connection fee for public AC chargers in the Netherlands, bringing down the cost of electric vehicle (EV) drivers using its extensive public AC network. Allego will also introduce an overstay fee to encourage EV drivers not to block charging spaces for other EV drivers.
Public EV chargers are a shared public infrastructure used by electric vehicle (EV) users. However, users of public EV chargers face access issues when drivers continue to occupy spaces well past the needed charge time, sometimes lasting several hours and often several days.
The connection fee, introduced in March of this year to counter charging post congestion, was limited to €0.25/hour. It was applied from the first hour and every hour the car was connected to an Allego AC charger in the Netherlands. To address this issue facing Netherlands-based EV drivers using public chargers and to bring down the cost of charging in general for its customers, Allego is removing its connection fee and instead implementing an overstay fee.
The overstay fee will apply only to those charging sessions lasting 5 hours or longer, between 07.00 and 23.00, and amounts to €0.05/minute. (€3,00 per hour).
Allego’s Head of Operations for the Benelux region, Louis Trefflich, says, “Accessibility is one of the pillars of Allego’s charging network. However, we also have made a promise to our customers for a convenient charging experience. We believe every EV driver should be able to charge when needed. With this change in tariff, we encourage more people to use chargers with consideration for the next user without penalizing the customers who do their part in the transition to a greener future.”
Please note that this rate does not apply to Allego chargers from a public tender in Groningen, Drenthe, Overijssel, and Gelderland. In Allego’s app, Smoov, you can check whether this applies to your favorite Allego charging stations.
