As Londoners demand more ways to keep their air clean and to tackle the climate emergency post ‘Lockdown’, Allego and the London Borough of Newham have partnered to offer reliable, interoperable on-street charging. The first phase will deliver 80 publicly accessible AC charging bays throughout the borough.
The agreement between Allego and the London Borough of Newham is part of the Go Ultra Low City Scheme (GULCS), a joint initiative between Transport for London (TfL), the Greater London Authority (GLA) and London Councils to install on-street EV charging points across the capital.
Allego and the London Borough of Newham have worked together to deliver a well-designed, simple to use and reliable network of 22 kW AC chargers. Allego’s open approach to charging means drivers can pay per kW with Visa, Maestro, Mastercard, using the Smoov App as a guest, with an account, RFID card or any of the Interoperable partners including EV Box, New Motion, Chargemap, Charge Point, Charge4europe, Engie, Franklin Energy, Travelcard, Gireve and Hubject”.
Allego currently operates more than 20,000 charge points throughout Europe, including 146 DC (50 kW) charge points in Retail locations across the UK. In the first phase of the program Allego will operate 40 smart Alfen Twin Dual Socket chargers. Designed for tough city conditions while providing 22 kW of power, charging most cars and vans in around 2 to 4 hours. These chargers also offer the flexibility to create smart charging hubs as the network grows.
Allego Managing Director for the UK and Ireland Paz Sharma said “We are proud and delighted to be working with Newham in delivering their ‘Newham Climate Now’ initiative and helping to address their ‘Air Quality Action Plan’ and look forward to helping expand the charging network together”
