The EV market has witnessed significant advancements in charging standards over the years. As the EV landscape evolves, the number of EVs that are still equipped with a CHAdeMO system is decreasing. That is why we are slowly phasing out the CHAdeMO chargers in our network. This means that we are not actively replacing chargers that support CHAdeMO, but we aren’t including them in new locations or locations that we are renovating.
To give a clear image of the numbers: of all new EVs that were sold in Europe in 2021, only 4.12% are equipped with the CHAdeMO system. And this number is predicted to keep decreasing.

The evolution of EV charging standards has led to a decline in the prevalence of CHAdeMO chargers within Allego’s European network. As the demand for CHAdeMO-equipped vehicles diminishes and CCS gains prominence, Allego is adapting its infrastructure to meet the changing needs of EV owners. While we continue to support CHAdeMO where relevant, we remain committed to building a forward-thinking charging network that caters to the majority of EVs on the road today. We are not actively replacing chargers that support CHAdeMO. But when we open a new location or renovate an existing location, we are implementing CSS chargers only.
But this decrease in CHAdeMO chargers in our network, doesn’t mean that we can’t still be by the side of CHAdeMO users. The changes to our network aren’t made in a day, and it’s important for us to cater the needs of all EV drivers. That is why there’s still a large number of Allego charging locations that support CHAdeMO.
You can simply find our CHAdeMO chargers on our website. When you press the three dots next to the search bar, you can filter on CHAdeMO chargers only. So you will still be able to easily find the right location near you!
