You’re a bit of a traveller, where did your last trip take you?

I recently returned from a weekend in Bretagne, after Bretagne I drove to Berlin and stayed there for a while. I’m a huge fan of the fully-electric Jaguar I-Pace. To be able to drive this car, I’ve become a personal driver for hire. I became such a fan of driving electric, I started my own blog; electricfelix.

Why did you choose to drive electric?

About two years ago, I had the opportunity to drive an electric motorcycle for a day. An unbelievable experience, I immediately loved it. It completely sold me on driving electric. Whenever I drive my ICE motorcycle now, I feel uncomfortable while waiting at a traffic light, polluting the air where I go. I am a big fan of the sharing economy, so I have been using Car2Go in Amsterdam and  DriveNow in Berlin.

In a way, I’m not looking forward to electric driving becoming more mainstream. It’s already so much fun. Everything is changing so quickly and because of the newness of the industry, there is still a lot of competition trying to get their share of the market. If you’re a bit of a geek like me and you like bargain hunting, there’s a lot you can do to drive an EV almost for free with. I like the fun of trying to drive for free, but I’m a bit of a geek like that. Almost a year ago there was a charging card from Maingau. They had a trial for the first 250 people to start using their charging card and in return, three months of free electric charging. I find these kinds of promotions to be amazing. Lidl also gives away free fast charging. Imagine that happening with normal fossil fuel. The kilometre prices I have driven are insane, and as e-driving becomes more common, great bargains like this will most probably be something of the past. But of course, I do want electric driving to become more mainstream for the sake of the environment.

What makes EV-driving fun for you?

It’s a combination of two things actually: I’m a bit of a bargain hunter and I love trying new stuff. I like to travel and I also like to share my car on Blablacar. With an electric car, you can drive almost for free when you share the cost with fellow drivers. This creativity triggers me.

I’m not a person who likes to plan a route. I just want to try and see what happens. Some electric drivers find that to be crazy, but I’ve never experienced any real obstacles. I’ve also been driving on the narrow mountain ways of Switzerland. Surrounded by nature, everything is quiet, and It feels great that my car doesn’t bother the quiet surroundings.

Do you have any trips planned shortly?

In November, I will be on my way to BMW Welt in Munich. And I try to go to Berlin every season, so probably in December. Next year I have Barcelona and Lagos, Portugal in mind.
