MG ZS EV Charging Guide

Overview – MG ZS EV Charging Guide

This section of our EV Academy provides a guide to charging the MG ZS EV, an all-electric SUV that first became available in 2019. It received improvements in 2022, giving it an impressive driving range of 318 km – a 20% increase in range from the original model.

Charging the MG ZS EV

You’ll find the MG ZS EV’s CCS charging inlet discreetly located behind a section of the front grille.

To open it, ensure the vehicle is unlocked, press and release the door; it will automatically open. Inside, you’ll find waterproof blanking plugs protecting the connectors: the upper plug for regular charging (Type 2 plug) and the lower plug for fast and ultra-fast charging (CCS Type plug with a 7-pin and an additional 2-pin connector).

Before charging, remove both blanking plugs. After use, replace the plugs, ensuring the rapid charge cover is refitted first, then close and secure the door by pushing until it clicks. Always remove any excess water from the port area before connecting the charging device.

The port features an electronic locking mechanism that activates when the vehicle is locked, preventing the cable from being disconnected. It unlocks only when the vehicle is unlocked, allowing the removal of the charging connector.

Charging at Home: The MG ZS EV is equipped with a Type 2 inlet, making it compatible with home charging stations. A full charge on a standard 7kW home charger takes around 6.5 hours.

Public Charging: For faster charging, use Allego’s public charging stations equipped with CCS (Combined Charging System) connectors for fast and ultra-fast charging.

Note: Charging times for Regular (22kW AC) shows times taken from empty to full, whereas Fast (50kW DC) and Ultra-Fast shows time taken to charge from 20% to 80 %. Charging times can vary based on factors like ambient temperature, battery state, and charging rate. The maximum charging rate may also be limited by the vehicle.
