This section of our EV Academy provides a guide to charging the Kia EV6, an extremely capable EV that hit the streets in 2021. With an impressive 200+ kW of DC charging capability and range of 528 km on a full charge, it is a popular choice when it comes to sustainable driving.
You’ll find the Kia EV6’s charging inlet located on the right side of the vehicle, at the rear.
To access it, either press on the charging door itself, which features a touch-sensitive release, or use the release button located on the dashboard inside the car. The door will open automatically to reveal the charging connectors.
Inside, you will see provisions for both AC and DC charging. The Kia EV6 uses a CCS inlet that combines both types of charging capabilities—Type 2 for AC regular charging, and CCS for fast and ultra-fast DC charging. Before connecting the charger, make sure to clear any excess water or debris from the inlet area.
Once you plug in the charger, the vehicle’s electronic locking system secures the connection, preventing the cable from being unplugged while the vehicle is locked. The port will only unlock when the vehicle is unlocked, ensuring the safety and security of the charging process. After charging, simply press the charging door until it clicks to ensure it is closed and secured.
Regular: Type 2 | Fast/Ultra-Fast: CCS |

Charging at Home: The Kia EV6 can be charged overnight using a Type 2 charger, with a full charge from a 7kW home charger taking about 7 hours.
Public Charging: For faster charging, use Allego’s public charging stations equipped with CCS (Combined Charging System) connectors for fast and ultra-fast charging.
Note: Charging times for Regular (22kW AC) shows times taken from empty to full, whereas Fast (50kW DC) and Ultra-Fast shows time taken to charge from 20% to 80%. Charging times can vary based on factors like ambient temperature, battery state, and charging rate. The maximum charging rate may also be limited by the vehicle.
